Adel Salman, ICV Vice President since October 2016 with portfolio of Policy and Advocacy, including Communications and Media, Islamophobia, CVE and strategic planning for ICV.
Born in Egypt to Egyptian parents, Adel is fluent in Arabic and English. His profession outside of ICV is electrical engineering by qualification; however, he is currently working in a more commercial role as Head of Supply Chain for Bega Cheese Ltd.
Adel’s goals for ICV are to change the narrative about Islam and Muslims, to reverse the tide of Islamophobia, and to build sustainable policy development and advocacy capacity for ICV.
Adel wants to achieve a positive voice for Victorian-Muslims. A sense of belonging along with reduced discrimination.
For ICV he wants a greater capacity for advocacy combined with long-term community level planning with agreed goals.
In the next year, he would like to see the development of position statements across a number of important policy areas, which are generally representative of the Muslim community’s view.
He would also like to see the development of a network of anti-Islamophobia activists and academics that coordinate initiatives, share information, and leverage expertise to effectively advocate and stand up for our Victorian-Muslim communities.
Adel loves Melbourne’s diversity and energy.
