Young Muslims in Victoria are invited to be part of a new and unique leadership training program. Join the Spirit of Leadership, a program which will deliver holistic leadership training for young and talented leaders. The program aims to provide spiritual leadership, encompassing the virtues and essence of Islam through the Prophetic model, with a focus on Ihsan (working with excellence), Rahma (dealing with people through compassion, kindness, mercy, inclusion and diversity) and Khidma (in service to the community)

What will the program involve?

This program is delivered by Benevolence Australia in partnership with the Islamic Council of Victoria’s Youth Committee. This rare opportunity will give participants the chance to become leaders who are driven by their values, skills, experiences and self-awareness.

Participants will:

Develop foundational understanding of leadership enriched with the teachings of leadership in Islam
Enhance leadership skills as part of a leader’s retreat program
Obtain practical experience in leadership and project management through active involvement in projects
Network and participate in panel discussions with successful Muslim leaders
Experience leadership through field trips to community and broader community organisations

Can I apply?

SOL is open to young men and women who:

live in Victoria
identify as a Muslim youth (18-28)
are currently involved in a Muslim social group, association or community center

We highly encourage recently arrived migrants (last 5 to 10 years) and youth from diverse backgrounds to apply.

What is the Program Format?

In the 8-month course, students will be required to compulsorily take part in of a series of activities including:

Orientation and induction day introducing participants to key community leaders (April 2018)
6 leadership workshops focusing on leadership development, communication skills and the virtues and essence of being a leader in Islam (April-November 2018)
Active participation in community projects guided by expert community leaders (April-November 2018)
Monthly support network program (April-November 2018)
2 SOL leaders iftars – breaking fast ( May-June 2018)
3 field trips to community organisations to experience leadership in practice (May-October 2018)
Panel discsussion with a working Muslim women’s board (July 2018)
SOL weekend retreat program (August 2018)
Graduation ceremony and Presentations (November 2018)

What is the commitment?

The program involves active partcipation in a series of activities over 8 months. On average over the course of 8 months, the time commitment will be approximately 4 hours per week.

When do I apply?

Applications close on Sunday, March 18th 2018. Participants will be contacted by phone to come for an interview in person at ICV after this date. The SOL program will commence in April 2018.

*Interviews will be conducted between 26th of March and 1st of April.

Fees

*All successful applicants will receive full sponsorship to the SOL program.

*SOL program will be conducted in Melbourne. Successful participants from Regional Victoria will need to cover their own costs for transportation.
