Media Release: Political Expediency in the wake of tragedy in Melbourne
ICV supports the Uyghur Muslims and Condemns the Chinese Authorities Ongoing Oppression in the lands of East Turkistan
The Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV), the representative body of Muslims residing in Victoria would like to inform the Muslim and Victorian community that it supports the noble efforts of our Muslim Uyghur brothers and sisters in their struggle for freedom and efforts to practice their faith. The Uyghurs have a long historical affiliation with the Islamic faith, their contribution to the Islamic Ummah is undeniable.
Islam teaches us that: “Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded”. The Noble Quran (16:90)
The ICV condemns the clear violations of Human Rights in the region and urges the Chinese Government and authorities to immediately cease breaches of Human rights on the Uyghur people. The systematic displacement of the Uyghurs from their rightful homeland by the Chinese Government must cease. Further, the extensive violation by the Chinese government of fundamental rights of the Uyghurs to practice their faith and live in peace and harmony has been noted in detail by the UNHCR, world media and other international human rights organisations.
We understand that the actions of the Chinese Government is predicated on the complete destruction of the Islamic culture and the Islamic Faith in the province that was once East Turkistan, this ongoing breach has only escalated in recent times, we pray to Allah almighty that this unacceptable situation will cease and that peace and security will once again return to the Uyghurs as it has in the past. The duas of the Ummah are sought in these tough times, we seek peace and unity for the Ummah
The ICV together with Muslims from all different backgrounds display unity with our Uyghur brothers and sisters in Islam.
ICV asks all Victorian Islamic associations and organisations to educate their communities about the Issue of oppression of the Uyghurs and to show further solidarity with their plight.
