Campaign to shine a light on devastating impacts of ‘War on Terror’
ICV Calls for Community Support to Combat Violence Against WomenTo commemorate national White Ribbon Day, the Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV) would like to convey its admiration and support for all organisations, members and activists involved in affirmative action to stop violence against women in our society. White Ribbon Day is an annual reminder to men in Australia of their role in standing up, speaking out and acting to stop domestic violence in our communities. Men need to work alongside women to promote the message that violence against women is never acceptable.
“Men speaking to other men about violence against women is a powerful catalyst for change.” – White Ribbon AustraliaViolence is a form of oppression and is strictly forbidden and heavily repudiated by Allah, the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing. Its malignancy permeates into the lives of relatives, children and society, which is why we need to participate in a more powerful drive to stamp it out. This can be done by acknowledging the positive role men play in stopping violence against women and cherishing such role models in the community. Women are honoured and maintain a high status in Islam and today we acknowledge the positive contributions of women in society such as daughters, sisters, mothers and wives. We also celebrate and cherish their successes in all walks of life. The ICV recognises that violence against women is not the only form of domestic or social violence occurring today. However, we need to stand by the vulnerable in our society by recognising that the majority of violence is perpetrated against women and, in most cases, by a man. For facts and figures please visit the White Ribbon website and Take The Oath to stand up, speak out and act to prevent men’s violence against women.
