Campaign to shine a light on devastating impacts of ‘War on Terror’
Overnight Raids and Arrests in MelbourneWhilst the ICV is still not aware of many of the details around these arrests, from what we do know, five people have been arrested and will be charged with planning to commit attacks at different locations in Melbourne including Federation Square and St Paul’s Cathedral. More information on the nature of these charges and the circumstances of the arrests will come to light in due course and the ICV will update its public positions accordingly.
The ICV shares the legitimate fear and anxiety that these types of actions can cause in our community and we are all united in our desire for a safe and harmonious society. What these men are accused of are against the very values that we all hold dear and the ICV strongly condemns any plans and actions to attack innocent civilians and places of worship, especially during this religiously important time of the year for so many in our community including our Christian friends. Having said that, we ask that our fellow citizens withhold their final judgement until the legal process has taken its due course. The ICV appreciates the measured public statements made by the Premier Mr. Andrews during his press conference this morning and strongly endorses his stance that these alleged acts are not in any way acts of faith but are in fact opposed to the principles and values of all religions. The ICV calls on all Victorians to stand resolutely against any action that can divide us and that seeks to undermine the fabric of this successful and vibrant and inclusive diverse society.
