Devastating impacts of 20 years of 'War on Terror'
Islamic Council of Victoria·Statement·25 May 2021
The death and suffering for civilian and allied drone societies has been catastrophic as a result of the last 20 years of the war on terror. Since September 11, 2001:
37 million people displaced from their homes across Yemen, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Over 929,000 deaths as a direct result of the Global War on Terror. 3+ million casualties including those disabled or seriously injured. Australia spent $14 billion on the wars.
These figures demand reflection and accountability. The ICV calls on all governments to ensure that the lessons of the past 20 years inform a more just and peaceful approach to international conflict and security.
