Disgraceful attack on stalwart of multicultural Victoria for supporting Palestine
The Herald Sun stooped to new lows with their article "Harmony Left at Post" [02/12/2023] which sought to portray Mohamed Mohideen OAM, a long standing and highly respected champion of multifaith engagement and multiculturalism, as stoking antisemitism in his social media posts. How? By highlighting the suffering of the people of Gaza who have been subjected to a genocidal campaign by Israeli forces and criticising Israel for its policies.
The article is not an isolated attempt to besmirch a respected leader from the Muslim and Palestinian communities; this is part of a campaign targeting those that stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza and advocate for an end to the killing and suffering. Religious and community leaders, doctors, and others have been attacked since October 7. The Zionist lobby works hard to accuse anyone that criticises Israel as being antisemitic to intimidate and silence them.
Anyone that knows and has worked with Mr Mohideen admires him for his deep sense of humanity, compassion, and love for all people regardless of their race, religion, and colour. As Mr Mohideen said, "I will not be silenced."
