Announcement of collaboration between the Islamic Council of Victoria and Jewish Council of Australia
The Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV) and the Jewish Council of Australia are pleased to announce that we have formally met to discuss matters of common concern to our respective communities. Representatives from the ICV and Jewish Council have engaged in productive discussions on the shared values, interests and needs of our communities. This includes our solidarity with the Palestinian people and demands for an end to the genocide in Gaza and standing against Islamophobia and antisemitism in Australia.
The ICV commends the Jewish Council's clear message that criticism of Israel must not be conflated with hateful antisemitism, and for their commitment to supporting the human rights of the Palestinian people.
"We look forward to working with the Jewish Council to advance justice for our respective communities and interfaith understanding based on mutual respect and understanding", said ICV President Adel Salman.
"We are very happy to learn from the Islamic Council of Victoria's steadfast commitment to human rights, justice, and interfaith cooperation. Their unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people is a model for us all. We are honoured to work with such an esteemed organisation and look forward to working together to combat Islamophobia and antisemitism," said Jewish Council of Australia executive officer, Dr Max Kaiser.
