The two sides are not morally equivalent
It is disingenuous at best, deceitful if not libelous at worst, to label the peaceful university protests as hateful and antisemitic.
The students and staff protesting against university complicity in Israel's genocide in Gaza come from many backgrounds. Many of them are Jewish, all of them are united in their call for Palestinian justice and liberation. None of them are calling for violence but are rather its victims.
Those that attack the university encampments by word or violent action, must be questioned. Are they supporting genocide?
One side is calling for an end to the slaughter and the forced starvation of an entire population, the other is a cheer squad for Israel's crimes. One side is bearing witness to the humanitarian catastrophe, the other cruelly downplays the suffering of the besieged Palestinian people. One side chants in solidarity with the Palestinian people, the other chants for their destruction.
Quotes attributable to ICV President Adel Salman: "Our political leaders, media propagandists, and university chiefs perniciously claim that the chant 'From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!' is a call for Israel's destruction rather than a cry for Palestinian self-determination and equality for all peoples of the holy land. These attempts to smear and delegitimise are doomed to failure, as is the racist ideology of Zionism."
