Sharing our Faith and Cultural Heritage — ICV's Victorian Mosque Open Day 2022

Islamic Council of Victoria·Event Announcement·17 February 2022

Commencing in 2017, the Islamic Council of Victoria's annual Mosque Open Day is now an essential part of Victoria's multifaith and multicultural calendar. It is truly an iconic celebration of dialogue, respect, and understanding between and amongst all the communities that comprise this state's rich mosaic.

Thousands of Victorians have flocked to a local Mosque near them not only to get to know their Muslim neighbours, but also to learn about the Islamic faith and the diverse Muslim cultural norms. They participate in a range of activities including guided Mosque tours, hijab tutorials, henna tattoo art, and discussions about Islamic beliefs.

As Victorians welcome the end of many of the COVID restrictions, the Mosque Open Day is a great opportunity to get out and connect with neighbours and to satisfy one's curiosity about their fellow Victorians of the Islamic faith.

"Mosques are always open and always welcoming places. As well as being a sacred space for prayer and reflection, they are places where communities gather, learn from each other and share," said ICV President Adel Salman.

The third anniversary of the Christchurch massacre will be two days after Mosque Open Day. "We must continue to reflect on the lessons of this appalling tragedy, and most importantly, we can never again show complacency in the face of intolerance and hate."
