Protecting the Community’s Rights
The ICV advocates for the rights, interests and wellbeing of Victorian Muslims at local, state and federal levels — engaging with governments, lawmakers, public institutions, civil society and the media so that Muslim perspectives are heard in the decisions that affect the community.
This work is powered by dedicated volunteers who monitor policy developments, engage with lawmakers and keep the community informed about issues affecting their rights and wellbeing.
Our advocacy priorities
The ICV’s advocacy spans freedom and justice for oppressed peoples, including the people of Palestine; combating anti-Muslim racism and vilification; supporting justice for First Nations Australians; safeguarding human rights and civil liberties in the context of counter-terrorism; advocating for the rights and protection of refugees and asylum seekers; protecting Muslim political expression and civic engagement; and promoting socio-economic support for vulnerable Victorians.
How we advocate
The ICV makes policy submissions to state and federal inquiries, engages directly with ministers and members of parliament, issues public statements on matters of concern to the community, and works in coalition with human rights, faith and community organisations.
