Aged Care

Supporting Our Elders

The ICV Aged Care Program supports the older members of our community with culturally and religiously appropriate care — extending the ICV’s decades of experience in hospital chaplaincy into aged care settings.

The program aims to enhance quality of life and overall wellbeing for elderly Muslims, while respecting their cultural, religious and linguistic diversity.

What the program does

The ICV trains chaplaincy volunteers in the realities of aged care — including dementia care, communication, and end-of-life support in residential settings — and visits participating aged care facilities, where volunteers have supported residents through Eid celebrations and end-of-life care. Multilingual volunteers are a particular focus, so residents can be supported in the language and culture they know best.

The program aims to foster social inclusion and reduce isolation among older Muslims; to provide culturally sensitive care aligned with Islamic principles and practices; and to offer holistic support spanning social engagement, mental health, recreation and spiritual guidance. It also supports family caregivers through resources, education and connections to respite services, and builds collaboration with aged care providers, health professionals and volunteers.

Get involved

The program is growing, with volunteer training and provider partnerships continuing to expand. Aged care providers, prospective volunteers and families interested in the program are welcome to contact the ICV.
