Solidarity & Reconciliation
The ICV recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of this land, whose sovereignty was never ceded, and stands in solidarity with First Nations communities through truth-telling, justice and meaningful action.
The ICV’s First Nations Position Statement acknowledges the shared struggles of First Nations and Muslim communities with systemic racism, the historic connections between our communities, and the vital role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Muslims in our community today. It calls on Victorian Muslims to educate themselves, support Aboriginal-led initiatives and embed First Nations justice in their advocacy and everyday practice.
Our Reconciliation Action Plan
The ICV’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) provides a transparent, measurable framework for our commitments to First Nations justice — building lasting partnerships with First Nations organisations. This commitment extends to the ICV’s own governance, with the ICV striving to include First Nations representation on its board wherever possible.
Partnership in practice
Each Ramadan, the ICV hosts an annual Iftar in partnership with Bubup Wilam Aboriginal Child and Family Centre — a relationship running since 2017 that brings Muslim and First Nations communities together over shared meals and intercultural dialogue. ICV representatives also take part in NAIDOC Week and First Nations-led events across Victoria, and justice for First Nations Australians is embedded in the ICV’s advocacy priorities.
