Prison & Youth Chaplaincy
Pastoral Care in Custody
The ICV Prison & Youth Chaplaincy provides religious, spiritual and pastoral care to Muslim men, women and youth in correctional and youth justice facilities across Victoria.
Chaplains help people in custody maintain their connection with faith and community — a consistent source of support through isolation, uncertainty and personal change, and an important foundation for rehabilitation.
What chaplains provide
Through regular visits, chaplains offer spiritual, emotional and psychological guidance. Depending on facility arrangements, chaplains may facilitate Jumu’ah and congregational prayers, Qur’an and Tajweed classes, and access to religious materials such as Qur’ans, prayer mats, prayer beads and educational resources.
After release
For those leaving prison, the ICV’s Muslim Connect program continues the journey — supporting reintegration with family, community and faith while addressing housing, health and employment.
